Lakers

Lakers

+3 players ($25.5m),
Cap Impact + $27.0M

+3  Wins

+50.34  MPG

-2.67  Off.

-1.82  Def.

This assumes Lakers do not make any trades.

  • Resign D'Angelo Russell to a 4 year deal starting at $20M. Lakers can't risk losing him for nothing if they want to remain competitive. They can look to trade him at the deadline if needed since he won't have a no trade clause.

  • Resign Max Christie to a 3 year deal starting around the TPMLE ($5.2M).

  • Sign a stretch C (biggest need) for minimum. My targets are Jay Huff or Mo Bamba.

  • Sign a veteran PG to a minimum deal for back up duties, targeting CP3 or Lowry.

Assuming Pelicans defer the Lakers 1st round pick to 2025, Lakers should target Kyle Filipowski in the 1st round (17th pick) and Bronny James in the 2nd round (55th pick).

  • Guards: Russell, Reaves, Vincent, Christie, Hood-Schifino, Bronny, CP3/Lowry

  • Forwards: Lebron, Rui, Vanderbilt, Lewis, Reddish

  • Bigs: Davis, Wood, Hayes, Huff/Bamba, Filipowski

Wood, Hayes, and Reddish all have player options. Will have to see who ultimately opts in.

Most importantly, fire Darvin Ham. My primary coaching candidates are Kenny Atkinson or Rajon Rondo; Terry Stotts a distant third option.

Free Agent Targets (Minimum) - Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry, Delon Wright, Spencer Dinwiddie, Doug McDermott, Robert Covington, Kelly Oubre, Taurean Prince, Mo Bamba, Jay Huff.

Trade Options - My opinion is that Lakers desperately need a stretch PF/C that can both backup AD at C or play next to him as a starter. My trade targets in order of preference would be Bobby Portis, Wendell Carter Jr, Kelly Olynyk, Nikola Vucevic.

Lakers should try to unload Hayes and Reddish if they pick up their player options. For salary matching, I would trade Gabe (injured and inconsistent offense, but played good defense when he returned) or Rui (I think he's a good player, but his best position is PF, which is a position of depth) and Jalen Hood-Schifino (still on rookie scale contract and showed glimpses of development in the G League) plus the 2024 1st round pick (assuming Pels opt to defer).

If Lakers want to go star hunting, I think Trae/Lavine is not realistic due to the new 2nd apron rules. I think Donovan Mitchell is the most salary they can trade for and they might revisit trading for Dejounte Murray.
