Due to the Bucks limited draft assets available to trade, they have to take some risks to improve their perimeter defense.

Nets trade Royce O'Neal to the Bucks for two 2nd round picks and Pat's contract. They do this because they collect some draft picks for O'Neal's expiring contract and they get good 3 point shooter on a reasonable deal.

Lakers trade Gabe, Wood, and a 2nd round pick for Bobby Portis and Cam Payne. They do this to add more size up front with a player that can play backup or start next to AD when the Lakers go big. Payne is salary filler.

Bucks do this to improve their perimeter defense. Wood is a stretch PF/C that can replace some of what Portis did on a minimum deal. O'Neal is a good 3D SG that is having a little bit of a down year. Gabe has been a good backup PG and performed well in last year's playoffs. Bucks are taking the risk that these 3 players get healthy and get back performing at their career averages with larger roles. Financially, this deal gets them below the 2nd apron for salary cap purposes.
